The fire

I ask
myself,
myself and I,
for forgiveness.

We did not know
that by the fire
there was a place for us.

We knew not
joy.
Nor rest.

Our feet
kept wandering
from crest to crest.

We are here now,
by the fire.

We shed a tear.

Stone by stone,
we've built
a spire.
